Drought evolution in the Haihe River basin during 1960–2020 and the correlation with global warming, sunspots, and atmospheric circulation indices

Abstract The Haihe River basin is the main grain production base and highland of economic strategic development in China. Based on daily meteorological data during 1960–2020, characteristics drought evolution were analyzed by standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). Pearson correlation method cross-wavelet analysis used to explore between SPEI climate factors (global warming, sunspots, atmospheric circulation indices). Global warming has led a trend increasing basin, there an obvious zonality change trend, with strongest impact central region (112°E–120°E, 38°N–41°N). was negatively correlated number sunspots. more sunspots were, severe basin. most susceptible El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Atlantic Multidecadal (AMO), followed Arctic (AO) Pacific Decadal (PDO).
